Item two is personal journal of weekly reflections kept for class on Cultures and Counseling. This journal exemplifies my interest and genuine respect for other cultures and awareness that cultures influence individual’s perception of evens and roles. This awareness help ethically approach cultural differences in counseling.
Item three is is a review of the movie 12 Angry Men and the analysis of group transition. Reviewing the stages of group through the movie helps me as a counselor better understand the interaction of groups and how to guide a group to optimal preforming stage.

Item one in an in depth search into the Florida laws affecting counseling profession in the state. In order to practice ethically, I need a clear understanding of the laws and expectations of a licensed mental health counselor in my state of Florida.

Item two is my personal disclosure statement. This form developed to begin the counseling relationship with clear guidelines of its limitations and responsibilities of the client as well as the counselor. This form helps outline an ethical practice. This form can also be found on my professional development page.
Item three is an in-depth look at the strength and weaknesses of the Beck’s Anxiety Inventory and how to best use this tool in our practices. Assessment tools are an important part of building a case conceptualization of a client and understanding how to use and when to use an assessment tool is essential for quality mental health care. Continuing to learn about assessment tools will help me best serve my client with the right tool to measure exactly what we are looking for.

Item one is a presentation of cultural groups in the Culture and Counseling class. Because I am a TCK, I feel strongly that they are a cultural group that is ignored and misunderstood. I feel strongly the need to advocate for this unique group and help TCK maneuver their specific issues. As a counselor one can advocate for them in schools and in job settings and help with misunderstandings in marriages.

Item two is a case study for counseling consultation for increased number of international students attending Florida Atlantic High School and who to best serve the school environment, as well as the multi-cultural students. Consultation is an essential component of counseling and in growing need where our profession can offer expertise in other organizations. Today with the highlighted need for mental health after the school shootings and other areas of society, our profession can offer our consulting skills for the good of society, organizations and individuals.
Item three is a research paper exploring the new disorder added to the appendix of the newly published DSM-5, indicating there is need for further information and study about the disorder. Because of the newness of IGD, this paper shows the need for counselors to continually study and expand their understanding of disorders as they emerge in our societies. The professional associations can coordinate in the exploration of new areas of studies as well as share information to practicing counselors.

Item one is an analysis of my own cultural groups that influence my worldview. That of gender, religion, nationality, education, socio-economic and nomadic childhood. Understanding that our cultural identify and groups with which we identify will frame our outlook. Awareness of self, helps you better serve clients of other cultural backgrounds.

Item two outlines a history of my career and analysis of choices I made in my journey and why I am where I am now aiming for my license in Mental Health Counseling.
Item three is a self-analysis about how patterns in my own extended family influence my worldview and biases. Being aware of triggers in my own history help me prepare to respond without judgment or assumptions to my clients. Furthermore the understanding of how I am affected by patterns in my family tree, make me a better counselor for my client.

Item one is a response to the movie The Soloist and the character who struggles with schizophrenia. Meeting the client where they offers genuine companion clinical work. “Fixing” the problem needs to be weighed with the desires of the client. The friendship and connection was more therapeutic then actions for “fixing” the schizophrenia and his living conditions.

Item two is an introduction to autism and the life of Temple Grandin. This exploration of autism opened my eyes to the reality of the spectrum and the benefit of meeting the client where they are. With autism numbers on the rise, a clear understanding will help be genuine with autistic clients as well as connect with family members with respect and encouragement.

Thirty-five of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole. The perspectives and deep seeded stereotypes between black and white Americans influence individual’s self-image as well as community systems, connections and policy. It is imperative to study this issue and self-evaluate personal assumptions or triggers, in order to advocate and show appropriate compassion to clients, communities and policy-makers that affect the race relations.
