PROFESSIONAL
My therapeutic approach has been influenced by the Model of the Indivisible Self and Wellness, Strength-based Therapy and Choice Therapy. I lean heavily on multi-cultural competencies and very much enjoy enjoy the differences and similarities between cultural groups. Furthermore, I have been influenced by Adler's concept of self-concept and family systems. I received a masters from Wake Forest Masters Program in Mental Health Counseling and am registered with the Florida Board as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (#IMH18746). The Wake Forest program leans heavily on the wellness and developmental model. I have experience working with grief groups, trauma, cross-cultural marriages and transitions with adolescents, children and adults. |
PERSONAL
I absolutely love to travel, everything from the airport to figuring out how to navigate a brand new place and meeting new people and new cultures. I do a lot of reading, especially historical fiction. And I enjoy the creativity of cooking and the way a good meal can bring people together to share experiences and thoughts. My upbringing as a Third Culture Kid, traveling between Latin America, Asia and the US, has greatly impacted my worldview. I speak Spanish fluently , even if my name doesn't sound like I do, and have lived all over Latin America for much of my life. My extended family remains in Latin America as so therefore my ties to the region continue strong. Also, living in Asia as a teenager and moving with my family so regularly, I identify as a Third Culture Kid/Adult and understand well the privileges of living in an adopted culture as well as the bumps. |
